[34] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP) vs. [67] Tatjana Maria (GER)
Suarez Navarro defeated Maria in a relatively easy match for the Spaniard. She came out focused and handled the oppressive weather conditions much better than her German opponent. She raced through the first set 6-0. Maria did offer up more resistance in the second set but it was not enough to dissuade Suarez Navarro. The Spaniard won 6-0, 6-3 and advanced to the semis.
[58] Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) vs. [107] Pauline Parmentier (FRA)
Begu had a much different start to her match, she was on the brink of losing the first set to Parmentier; however, the Frenchwoman was broken due to a slew of costly errors and Begu broke again in the first set to win it 7-5. Parmentier was mentally deflated after failing to serve out the first set and her inability to forget the disappointment cost her the second set. Begu won 7-5, 6-0 and will play Suarez Navarro tomorrow for a spot in the final.
[17] Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) vs. [108] Ana Bogdan (ROU)
Sevastova never seemed in this match mentally; she was distracted by everything and could not focus on her game. Bogdan seized the opportunity to defeat the number one seed and did so relatively easily, 6-1, 6-3. She will play Julia Goerges in the semifinals, with hopes of getting to her first career singles final. Like so many players, she has been battling injury and played this tournament with a heavily bandaged right knee.
[45] Julia Goerges (GER) vs. [294] Alexandra Dulgheru (ROU)
Goerges won 7-5, 7-5. It was a very closely contested match, but she was better at the critical moments. By winning she denied the home crowd a third Romanian in the semifinals. She will have to get by another Romanian in the semifinals if she wants to get to the final.
