Williams Sisters Into Doubles Final

WIMBLEDON, Great Britain

Unseeded Serena and Venus Williams continue to defy the odds and proclaim their ability to compete at the highest level when least expected.  Playing rather sporadically in doubles over the years, the sisters have managed to win thirteen (13) Major doubles titles together.  They surprised everyone, again,  this Wimbledon by defeating four seeded teams to get to another Major final.

R1:  defeated [11] Klepac/Srebotnik 7-5, 6-3

R2:  defeated Mertens/Mestach 6-4, 6-4

R3:  defeated [6] Hlavackova/Hradecka 6-4, 6-3

QTRS: defeated [4] Makarova/Vesnina 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-2

SEMIS: defeated [8] Goerges/Ka. Pliskova 7-6(3), 6-4

They have never lost a final in doubles. Will they continue that trend and strengthen their case for why they should always be seeded in the doubles draw, at least at the Majors.  You can never count them out.  Even when Venus looked like she could barely move, so exhausted from fatigue, she continued to find an inner reserve of will to get her serve in when it was a crucial point and to play another brilliant volley.  Serena has shown unlimited reserves of energy and I wonder if she will have anything left in the tank when she takes on Angelique Kerber in her championship match in singles.

Only time will tell.  Will Serena Williams win number 22 tomorrow?

Will the Williams sisters win number 14 Major doubles title tomorrow ?

  1. I am proud of these sisters – you both deserve all the wonderful things that you have received (worked so hard for), and then some more.
