Women’s Semifinals: [1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. [50] Elena Vesnina (RUS)
In the most consistently dominant display of power I have ever seen, Williams crushed her opponent from the very start of the match. She broke Vesnina twice before she even realized what was happening. Williams has memories of another semifinal match where she was heavily favored to win. After winning the first set 6-2 against the 43rd ranked Roberta Vinci, we all thought that the match was hers. Thus, I am sure Williams still remembers and did not let up in the second set. She won 6-2, 6-0. She dished out her third second set bagel of the tournament. She marched into the final with conviction; however, her next opponent has beaten her in a final before. Angelique Kerber did what she had only been able to do once, beat Williams. They have never met on grass, so expect this rematch to be interesting. Williams wants revenge, she does not like losing and hopefully she won’t lose twice to Kerber like she did to Garbine Muguruza.
KERBER ENDS VENUS’ DREAM RUN
Women’s Semifinals: [4] Angelique Kerber (GER) vs. [8] Venus Williams (USA)
I hoped; however, I knew it would take a lot for Williams to beat Kerber. It’s been a great run for her but she has played so much tennis to get here and I think the fatigue finally caught up to her. She just could not get going and Kerber took full advantage. She won 6-4, 6-4 and moved on to the second Major final of her career. She will play a familiar foe. Will the result be the same as that of the 2016 Australian Open? Has Serena Williams figured out what she needs to do to beat Kerber?
