[225] Julia Boserup (USA) vs. [104] Tatjana Maria (GER)
Boserup was the only American to complete her match today and she must be jumping for joy. After failing numerous times to qualify for the main draw of a Major, Boserup was successful this Wimbledon. She defeated Maria 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 and is into the second round of a Major for the first time in her career. Unfortunately, she gets to play Belinda Bencic in the next round. Can Boserup continue her run?
BENCIC MADE EASY WORK OF PIRONKOVA
[7] Belinda Bencic (SUI) vs. [71] Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL)
Pironkova was a shadow of the player that previously pushed Serena Williams to three sets and has a winning record against Venus Williams, beating her twice at Wimbledon. Today she had a bandaged right shoulder, which may have hampered her game. If not physically, at least mentally as she played tentatively the entire match and offered minimal resistance to Bencic. Bencic, savvy as usual, utilized the angles to keep her off balanced and won fairly comfortably 6-2, 6-3.
IS BOUCHARD FINDING HER GAME?
[48] Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) vs. [94] Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK)
Rybarikova got to the third round last year, but this year she is struggling with an injury. Bouchard is back with her long-time coach, Nick Saviano, and hopes that will be the missing ingredient. She won 6-3, 6-4 but struggled to close it out against the injured Rybarikova. She will take it as she works to rebuild the form that saw her make the final here in 2014. Next up though is a dangerous opponent, [19] Johanna Konta (GBR).
