All eyes will be on Serena Williams, the number one seed and the defending champion; however, there is another American female player that may just steal the spotlight. Keys by virtue of getting to the final of the Aegon Classic Birmingham on 6/18/2016 and breaking into the top ten for the first time in her career deserves to be recognized as a serious threat. It has not been easy for American women to break into the top ten and Keys is the first American female to make her debut in the top ten since Serena Williams did so in 1999. Keys defeated Strycova 6-3, 6-4 to win the title and claim her second career singles title on grass. She is making it known that she is a contender for the title of the third Major of the season, now just a few days away. Can Keys make another break through and win her first Major title at Wimbledon? There will be many obstacles in her way; however, given her recent results and how well her game is suited for the surface I give her a very good chance of upsetting things at Wimbledon. She is in the bottom half of the draw and slated to play the German, Laura Siegemund. Interestingly, they met earlier this year on clay in Charleston and Siegemund won the match in three sets after Keys had taken the first set. I don’t expect Keys has forgotten that result and she will be primed to get a little revenge when they meet. The odds favor Keys because she has the weapons that will give her quick and easy points. I expect her to get through this match without any issues, unless of course the mind intervenes.
