WEEK: 05.09.2016
American Louisa Chirico is the mover of the week. Her excellent performance at the Mutua Madrid Open last week was rewarded in a major rise in her ranking this week. Chirico got all the way to the semifinals before losing to an in-form Dominika Cibulkova. It was not her best performance of the tournament, perhaps she was a tad overwhelmed by what she had accomplished and the whole experience of being in her first significant WTA singles semifinal. Nevertheless, I was quite impressed with her game and I am happy to see a young American showing some skill on the red clay. I hope she will build on this performance going forward and hope to see her go deep at Roland Garros.
