Men’s Doubles Final: [CR3] Nicolas Mahut/Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs. [CR20] Raven Klaasen/Rajeev Ram
The French duo continued their impressive partnership by winning their second consecutive Masters 1000 title in two consecutive tournaments. They became a team in 2015 and have had some fabulous results as they seem to have found the secret ingredient required to win on the doubles court. Both are singles players; yet, they have had more success on the doubles court. They are the reigning US Open Doubles Champions. Today they defeated Ram and Klaasen 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 in a thrilling affair. Ram and Klaasen got off to a promising start; however, they could not sustain the momentum against the persistent attack from the French duo.
Confidence, it blossoms with success and the French team has been quite successful this season. They have only lost two matches and are hoping their beginning success will continue throughout the year. They are playing for a coveted spot in the year-end Finals. The advantage of doubles over singles is that you have someone to encourage you and carry the match when you are having an off day. Discouragement rarely lingers if the partnership is a positive one and Mahut and Herbert seemed to have figured out how to maximize each other’s potential. They both probably would like to be as successful on the singles court, Herbert probably more so than Mahut at this stage in his career. However, for now, they will cherish their doubles success and continue to strive for the same in singles.
