MATCH OF THE DAY: [CR47] Johanna Konta (GBR) vs. [CR133] Shuai Zhang (CHN)
When the draw came out, no one would have predicted these two in the semifinals, except perhaps Konta and Zhang. That is how confident they are in their game and that’s why they were both able to defeat top ranked players en route to this encounter. Who would settle their nerves quicker; neither player had any experience of playing for their first Major semifinal berth. Konta got comfortable first and took a two break lead in the first set before Zhang broke back to force Konta to serve it out again. Konta showed her mental strength, pushed her disappointment aside and served out the first set on her second attempt. If possible, she became more confident and Zhang could not stay with her. Konta made the Australian and British fans proud with her 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Zhang. Can she take it all the way to the title?
