MATCH OF THE DAY: [15] Madison Keys (USA) vs. [20] Ana Ivanovic (SRB)

Keys narrowly escaped after Ivanovic lost her focus due to the ill-health of her coach, Nigel Sears.  Things were going Ivanovic’s way; she won the first set 6-4 and was up 1-0 in the second when her coach had an unfortunate medical emergency.  Play was suspended and perhaps Ivanovic should have rescheduled the continuation of the match for the next day.  Ivanovic is an emotional player normally and despite stepping back on court to play, she was not ready.  She did not have enough time to process her emotions and concerns about her coach. Leading in both the second and third sets early, she could not hold her serve to extend the lead.  For most of the second set she just seemed lost, reacting poorly as Keys dictated play.  This was not an exceptional performance from Keys and Ivanovic under normal circumstances would have won this match. Keys won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
