Aegon International Eastbourne, Great Britain
Women’s Semi-final: [CR13] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs. [CR43] Sloane Stephens (USA)
They both are searching to find their form. Searching to find a way to regain the level of tennis that catapulted them up the ranking. Each had made some progress with their recent success on grass and hoped to take it a step further. It was always going to be a tough task for Stephens who had never defeated Radwanska in three tries. When you are playing with confidence, it seems easier to convert on break chances. When you are not playing with confidence, everything appears twice as difficult to accomplish.
Stephens lost the match because she lost the first set. The mental energy and ultimately the physical energy exerted to fight back from being a set down was too taxing for Stephens. Although Radwanska is also struggling to find consistency in her game at the moment, she is still a tough opponent to reckon with. In the end, it was too much for Stephens to sustain the level of play required to overcome Radwanska and make it to her first WTA Tour final. Although she fought back to force a third set, she lost 16, 7-6(3), 26. Will Radwanska win her first title of the 2015 season or will Bencic continue to impress?
