[TR2] Bob and Mike Bryan defeated the team of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Lucas Pouille in two hard-fought tiebreakers: 7-6(4), 7-6(3). The young team did not go down easy; they made the number one seeded team work extremely hard for the victory. Hopefully this tough test will benefit the brothers going forward. Sometimes when you get through a tough match it seems to settle the nerves.
[TR5] Jack Sock and Canadian partner, Vasek Pospisil, defeated the team of Robert Lindstedt and Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 6-4. The number two seeded team continues to be impressive. Sock is still alive in singles and will face Borna Coric in the 3rd round, a much-anticipated match. Sock is keeping American hopes alive for a male champion at Roland Garros. The last American male champion was Andre Agassi in 1999. Can we start to expect Sock to give us a Roland Garros title?
[CR56] Steve Johnson lost to [CR9] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) in straight sets: 4-6, 3-6, 2-6. Johnson defeated the twenty-sixth seed, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, in a tough five setter. He had another difficult match in the second round that went four sets. Perhaps the expenditure of energy to win those matches caught up with him. He did a great job getting to the third round and will continue to build on that going forward.
