Men’s Final: [CR1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. [CR2] Roger Federer (SUI)
It was supposed to be captivating, the match of the tournament and instead it was very dull until Federer woke up. Federer came out sluggish after a delayed start and struggled to get motivated. Djokovic on the other hand was ready from the first ball and made Federer pay for his slow start, taking the first set and getting an early break in the second. Maybe yesterday’s match took more of a physical toll than even Federer anticipated because he was a bit slower to the ball. He was also not as mentally sharp and made some uncharacteristically poor shot selections.
The match looked destined to be a dud, then somehow Federer clawed his way back into the match. Djokovic’s brief lapse in concentration gave Federer the opportunity he needed to extend the match. The third set was a battle for control and both players struggled to hold on to the lead. Although Federer fought back, it was not enough as the effects of age caught up to him at the end. Djokovic eventually wore him down to win 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-2 and exacted revenge for his recent loss.
