The following results are mentioned as upsets and the outcomes were unexpected because of extenuating circumstances.

Benjamin Becker defeated Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.  Hewitt was up two sets and had won their two previous encounters; thus, it was surprising that he folded so easily in the fifth.

Victoria Azarenka defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-2.  Wozniacki has been playing better tennis recently and Azarenka is still working on her form after some injury issues.

Coco Vandeweghe defeated Samantha Stosur 6-4, 6-4.  Stosur is the higher ranked player and Australian.  However, Stosur does not handle pressure well and Vandeweghe had beaten her the last time the met.

Another top ten seed was eliminated from the women’s draw; while the top ten seeds remain intact in the men’s draw.  Will a top ten seeded male player get eliminated on day five?
