Davis Cup Final, France
Rubber 3, Day 2: [SUI] Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka vs. [FRA] Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet
The Swiss team was confident from the start of the match. Playing aggressively and striking the ball with conviction, they broke Benneteau to take the first set. Although the French team had numerous opportunities in the second set to potentially even the match, they failed to capitalize.
Two sets down and it was essentially over for the French team. They were always playing from behind and had to work hard to hold serve, it was only a matter of time before they were broken again. Benneteau would succumb to the pressure in the fifth game and lose his serve. That’s all the Swiss team needed to seal the doubles victory, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
If the French team hopes to win the title, they will have to win both singles matches on day three. Unfortunately for them, the odds are against them. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has proven that he is unreliable and Wawrinka has chosen this tournament to play his best tennis.
