BNP Paribas Masters, Paris
[CR37] Dominic Thiem (AUT) could not duplicate the result of their first encounter; instead he would lose 4-6, 6-7(6) to [CR4] Stan Wawrinka (SUI).
Thiem struggled with his consistency off the ground and his shot selection at a crucial point in the tie-break cost him the match. It confounds me why some players use the drop shot, especially when they are in control of the point. I call it a brain cramp. A moment when your brain temporarily stops working, causing you to make an ill-advised decision. The drop shot is the one shot in tennis that I think is too often misused and poorly executed.
Wawrinka was more focused today, he executed his shots consistently better and kept Thiem off balanced the entire match.
