Men’s Semifinal: [CR6] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs. [CR56] Martin Klizan (SVK)
Klizan was riding a wave of confidence after his win against Rafa and he had given Berdych fits their last encounter. Berdych had to play a tidier match to prevent Klizan from getting another upset. His indifferent play at times is bothersome, which Berdych would show up today? He has made it to Major Finals; yet, he seems incapable or unwilling to take the next step, staying consistently focused.
Klizan is focused, enthusiastic, and he believes with his game he can be a legitimate threat; not today, as Berdych was the more determined player once he won the first set. Although Berdych played a few loose points the first set and missed several break opportunities, he sharpened his focus and the execution of his forehand was much cleaner in the second set. As Berdych hit winner after winner, he became the more confident player, while Klizan was left with doubts.
Berdych’s win, 6-4, 6-1, sends him into the final where he will face the number one ranked player, Novak Djokovic (SRB).
