Their last encounter was on the biggest stage, The Wimbledon Final, and it was an embarrassment for [CR9] Eugenie Bouchard (CAN). Every aspect of her game deserted her, even her will to compete. The talented Canadian who had impressed everyone with her heavy shots and her ability to take the ball early, could not keep the ball within the lines. She demonstrated the important role psychology plays in sports, especially individual sports. When your confidence is high you can execute any shot; however, when you lose your confidence, the result is a complete breakdown of your game and there is no place to hide.
She was completely overwhelmed by the occasion, there is no shame in that, lots of players have been there. She can take solace perhaps in the realization that at least she did not lose a lead, she never had one. [CR3] Petra Kvitova (CZE) was not interested in any excuse and she maintained her focus and executed her plan of attack almost to perfection, winning the match, 6-3, 6-0.
All eyes will be focused on the outcome of this match and I think Bouchard will rise to the occasion. She has been regaining her confidence, so maybe, just maybe, Kvitova will not have such an easy victory tomorrow. Bouchard is ready to compete at her highest level and perhaps change the outcome in her favor.
