No title defense

Moselle Open, France

[11] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) was knocked out of contention for his title defense by [45] David Goffin (BEL), 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5.

Tsonga looked in control of the match, taking the first set easily.  Goffin was not deterred and has become an unexpected obstacle for many players recently.  He is a fighter who moves very freely on the surface.  He has the shots and places them with accuracy and power when the need demands.  He can also counter punch with the heavy hitters and he proved that by resisting Tsonga’s attempt to claim another victory in his title defense.

Goffin is not afraid to play against the higher ranked players.  You will have to beat him to get the victory because he will not lose his focus.

Tsonga did not start this tournament off well, he was pushed in the first match.  It could have been a little rust; however, to lose this match after taking the first set easily, once again, he has to question his focus.
