Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, China
[CR7] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) defeated [CR61] Timea Bacsinszky (SUI), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Consistency and her athleticism are Wozniacki’s strengths; therefore, you need to adjust your game accordingly, do not get into long rallies and keep the ball away from her backhand. Hitting behind her is another useful ploy to negate her foot speed. Soft looping mid-court shots may allow you to get back in the point; however, Wozniacki’s forehand is good enough for her to punish those balls. A poorly executed drop shot is also asking for trouble.
Bacsinszky is an all court player and has all the shots: a decent serve, a two-handed backhand, a flat forehand, can easily change the pace on her shots, and willingly approaches the net. However, she lacks foot speed and is not as fit as other players. Fatigue was her downfall, she could not hold her serve and could not get to the balls to execute her game plan. If she wants to compete successfully against the top players, she will have to improve her fitness, she has the skills.
