Connecticut Open, New Haven
Women’s Finals: [CR4] Petra Kvitova (CZE) vs. [CR68] Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK)
Kvitova was very focused in today’s Final, she kept the errors down and managed her nerves very well.
Rybarikova was no match for the determined force of Kvitova. She fought valiantly in the first set, but it was to no avail as that set went by 6-4. Many players are discouraged after losing a set when they competed very well, it makes it very hard for them to feel convinced that they can win and this lack of conviction usually manifests in an easy loss of the subsequent set. Kvitova won the second rather easily, 6-2, as Rybarikova’s belief that she could win this match disappeared.
The goal for every player is to be in top form going into the Majors and this was definitely a boost in confidence for Kvitova, as she put it all together in this final match. Kvitova hopes this form will carry her through to another Major title in 2014 at the US Open.
